The Power of the Vagus Nerve & Stress Reduction

The Vagus Nerve is known to be ‘one nerve with thousands of branches’ that connect to our brain, heart and organs. Thus, it is the leader in our body’s crucial functioning of communication to our motor and sensory impulses to every organ in the body. This important nerve functioning can be impacted by stress.

In our Vagus Nerve Class, we will take a closer look at how to alleviate stress response in the Vagus Nerve in 3 primary areas: Digestion Health, Breath Health, & Neck Health.
All levels of experience are welcome, even beginners with no yoga experience.

Why these 3 areas?

The way we breath plays an important role on heart function, blood pressure and stress response in the body. Research has shown that slow, deep breathing can increase healthy vagal tone, thus lowering heart rate and stress. In this class, we will take a look at how we breathe and its impact on our body and mind. We will learn to take easeful breaths to balance out our system.

Our gut plays a powerful influence on our brain and nervous system. The seat of good health starts with a strong digestive system. Digestive problems can develop from an over active nervous system that is exacerbated by stress, anxiety and even depression.

The neck is the gateway to the heart/head connection. So, we need to work to keep the neck and shoulders in a good position for posture in order to keep the mind calm. It’s helpful to have daily techniques to relieve tension from your neck to avoid nerve pain, migraines and other stress related ailments. This class will focus on loosening the neck and shoulders so the Vagus Nerve channel between the heart, heat and organs seamlessly.

In this class, we will:

• Learn about the anatomy of the Vagus Nerve and the neck, digestive & respiratory systems
• Explore movements to alleviate restriction & stimulate relaxation responses
• Apply breathing techniques to aide healthy digestion and alleviate tension, anger, & anxiety
Experience relaxation techniques to change our mental state and cultivate serene feelings
• Learn tangible lifestyle activities to help support a healthy system
